You will join a team of senior scientists within the 'Viral Disease and Therapy Markers' Group. Within an organisation that has already shown a strong commitment to long-term investment in pharmacogenomic support to its drug development processes, your role will be pivotal to the identification and management of pharmacogenomics projects.

Concentrating on the handling of strategic and critical scientific issues, which surround the use of pharmacogenomics you will work within an International matrix management structure, and have regular and rewarding communication with senior colleagues, across a range of functions. As such, you will be working as part of the 'Early Development' team, which is responsible for deciding, which of the well-characterised compounds to bring through to clinical development.

This is a senior position, which features a high level of complex decision-making, which is critical for the success of the pipeline. It is demanding an individual, who has both an in-depth knowledge and awareness of how the pharmacogenomics field moves and possesses the 'vision' to shape the biomarker strategy.

You'll be prepared to make strategic recommendations, which go beyond your current experience. As a strong and clear communicator, you will discuss your decisions credibly with the highest levels within the organisation.

PhD, MD or DVM qualified, you will have a minimum of 10 years scientific experience gained within an industry or academic environment. An in-depth knowledge of pharmacogenomic research will be coupled with a proven capability in experimental molecular biology research.

Description:
The applicant will join a diverse team and contribute his/her expertise in genetics to designing and critically evaluating studies. The applicant will be responsible for scanning and interpreting the recent literature to identify variation in key genes and signaling pathways that may be involved in disease development and progression. Responsibilities also include designing and running DNA and RNA-based assays including multiplex PCR, genotyping, DNA sequencing and real-time PCR in a GLP-compliant environment. Experience in computer programming will facilitate bioinformatics analyses, automating processes and interfacing with instruments.

Qualifications:
Successful candidates will have a PhD with a research emphasis on population genetics, excellent molecular biology and troubleshooting skills and computer programming ability. Related postdoctoral experience preferred. Applied knowledge of sequence analysis and manipulation using molecular biology software is necessary. Deep understanding of genetic variation, solid scientific writing, oral communication and people skills are a must. Familiarity with lab automation is a plus.

Position Description:
The applicant would report to the Pharmacogenomics Principal Scientist and will be responsible
1. to conduct biomarker-based translational clinical pharmacogenomic research to explain and forecast between-subject and between-population differences in proof-of-principle, drug efficacy and safety in various therapeutic areas including CNS, metabolic disorder, oncology;
2. to design, manage clinical pharmacogenomics projects and interpret data to reinforce credibility internally and externally
3. to identify and/or assist in external collaborations in defined therapeutic areas
4. to interact with clinical teams and other involved partners in discovery and clinical development, to explain data and the value of pharmacogenomics, assess clinical issues in compound development where pharmacogenomics might provide solutions, help establish the bridge between discovery and clinical work, design/write clinical pharmacogenomics protocols, and prepare reports, manuscripts and other documents.

Position Qualifications:
The applicant must be a clinical pharmacologist or pharmacogeneticist with a Pharm D, or Ph.D. or M.D., Ph.D. Good understanding of regulations, biostatistics, clinical PK and familiarity with bioiniformatics are a definitive asset. GLP/GCP/GMP training with a strong focus on special requirements of work within clinical trials is required. Very good communications skills and diplomacy are a must for this position since the department provides global support for clinical trials, and is positioned within the drug discovery division. Ability to work in a multifunctional team and in a highly complex and global environment according to highest ethical standards and J&J credo values is required. Strong working knowledge of genetics/genomics and the impact of genetic variation/expression profiling on disease progression, predisposition or therapy are needed.

MD or PhD with at least 5 years experience in Human Genetics. Exceptional degree of ingenuity, creativity, and resourcefulness. Director of Marker Localization

A Ph.D. in biochemistry, molecular or cellular biology with additional training in genetics or microbiology. Strong scientific skills in histology, histochemistry and molecular biology and a sound understanding of role of biomarkers in the drug development process. Excellent theoretical and experimental background in molecular biology including genetics, PCR related techniques, RNAi, pharmacogenomics and pharmacogenetics. Strong experience working with nucleic acids, toxicological and biochemical databases. At least five years of cross functional management with demonstrated leadership of teams of scientific researchers. Code #20518
