NEWSLETTER, NOVEMBER 2005

The beginning of the Holiday season has met our society in great spirits. Major events will be held in the next months, beginning with our first E-Symposium to be held on December 12th. This groundbreaking event will be broadcasted live and registration is free. Next year we will have our society's 4th meeting in conjunction with the American Society of Human Genetics Meeting in New Orleans. Submissions for The Pharmacogenomics Journal have reached unprecedented levels reflecting the increasing importance of our subject matter. Pharmacogenetic treatments can be foreseen in a not so distant horizon and our Society has been occupying a privileged spot in the dawning of this new era.

It is therefore timely to thank the support of our members who are making the ISP a leading organism in the development and improvement of individualized, high-quality, patient oriented treatments. Our goals of being active participants in the debate that will lead to sound regulations have been so far partially met by our Committees. Your contributions to these debates are strongly encouraged and appreciated. With this in mind our Board of Director's is now being forwarded all the emails addressed to the Society. This directive offers a unique opportunity of exchanging information and sharing concerns with individual's whose standing ascertains that their opinions and advise will be heard at the policy making level.

Our website is becoming a dynamic means of communication and exchange of ideas between members. We invite you to access it regularly, add it to your Favorites list and follow up the unfolding of our Society's achievements. We would be especially grateful for your contributions.

Some topics are now important to remember:

1. Membership
We are accepting membership renewals for the 2006 calendar year as well as new memberships. It is important to remind that members are our most productive recruiters and your efforts to bring in new members are appreciated. Please visit our website at www.pharmacogenomics.org.uk and click on register for membership to renew your membership. All members will receive a subscription to The Pharmacogenomics Journal for the calendar year of 2006.

2. Committees
We are still interested in suggestions from members regarding the creation of new Committees. Please contact us at JBusnello at med.miami.edu with your suggestion. Answers can be expected overnight and we look forward to have members coordinating new Committees.

Enrollment in our ongoing Committees is still available and your participation is highly appreciated.

3. Public Resources
Several links to important websites have been added to our Public Resources menu. You can now find a basic list of them at our site. We aim to facilitate your search for important information in our area, and make our site a regular stop when you browse the web for Pharmacogenomics related subjects.

Please let us know of any other sites you may consider important. Although we currently list only Public Resources we are developing a database of pharmacogenomic related websites which can be posted in the future for our member's appreciation. Final decisions regarding the posting of web links will be at the discretion of our Website Committee.

4. Educational Resources
Members of our Society have co-authored and published in the April issue of The Pharmacogenomics Journal a Consensus Article on Pharmacogenomics Education. This piece of work calls for the implementation of Pharmacogenomics Disciplines in Health Schools globally, and very insightfully states the reasons for such an action and the panorama that the new generation of health professionals will face in the next few years. Points of views expressed in this article have been shaped in the past meetings of the ISP and Education on Pharmacogenomics is becoming our most important outreach commitment.

We will also be hosting the first Pharmacogenomics E-Symposium™ to be held on the next 12th of December. Registration for the symposium is free at www.pgx.e-symposium.com. This groundbreaking Event will be broadcast live and archived thereafter. We believe that it will stimulate indispensable knowledge sharing amongst scientists, government officials, regulators, drug manufacturers and medical professionals worldwide. The online nature of the event means that all delegates will be able to tune in and listen to leading scientists and experts from the convenience of their own home or workplace and share knowledge with colleagues internationally. The E-Symposium is broadcast via cutting edge webcasting technology which is accessible to anyone with a computer, a soundcard and an Internet connection.

Finally we wish all our members and close ones a happy holiday season and we look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Julio Licinio
